About Half a Loaf

Halfaloaf.ie was set up in June 09 and is a social and networking forum primarily for people who are unemployed but is open to everyone and we encourage everyone to join This site is run on a voluntary basis

The site has four main aims:

  • Help end the Social Isolation Unemployed people feel
  • Encourage business ideas and networking.
  • Be an outlet for the unemployed.
  • Unemployed people need to get back into the mainstream of society

Unemployed people have contact with official agencies such as Social Welfare, FAS etc but not with each other and this website helps close that gap.

The current recession is not going to the solved by isolating the unemployed to being mere statistics and hoping that things will get better sometime.

The pool of ability that unemployed people have is enormous and it is nothing short of criminal that this pool is being left to drift along on an aimless basis.

There appears to be paralysis in official Ireland in how to deal with the unemployed.

There needs to be recognition that people from all walks of life and a wide variety of educational background are now unemployed.

When the numbers joining from month to month drop this seems to be met with joyous celebrations from official sources as a sign that the recession is slowing down.

Being unemployed means a total disconnect from what passes as normal society.

There are many strands to unemployment from those who are made redundant with a decent package to those who receive nothing.

The 428000 unemployed at the end of August are human beings and deserve to be treated better than made to stand in the rain when signing on.

The unemployed are willing to participate in the recovery they simply want leadership to help.
